About your Singing teacher
Cath Coombs

Cath has been teaching voice since 2001, tutoring students at all levels one to one privately and in schools. She has also led choirs and held singing  workshops and  masterclasses. Her teaching is greatly influenced by her Estill Voice Systems training and the practice of The Alexander Technique, which approaches activities such as singing by first assessing the way the body is naturally designed and used for the greatest ease and efficiency.  She has run Cambridge Singing Tuition alongside her performance career, working as a professional musician since the 1990s. With her first band, Whiskey Before Breakfast, later Thought Gang, collaborating with Martin Green of Lau, she toured the UK, and Europe, playing such festivals as Glastonbury, The Edinburgh Fringe, Sidmouth and Cambridge, where Cath had the privilege of being joined on stage by Joan Baez. Their two albums "Mary's Teapot" and "Monsters from the Id" were well received.

She went on to tour Canada with Horace X on their "Strategy" album tour of 2005. She has featured on several albums and fronted a number of other bands including The Cath Coombs Jazz Quintet and her 8 piece soul band
Cath Coombs and the Awesome Soul Collective. She has extensive experience as a jobbing session musician and performer. In her current band, Downpipe, featuring  bass saxophone, Cath sings and plays blues violin, collaborating with Pete Newman and Louis Thorne.   Her other instruments include cello and piano.
